I was born in Canterbury, spent my childhood in London and have lived in Whitstable since 1989. Before settling in Kent, I spent six years living and working in Brazil, Israel and Portugal . I studied Fine Art at Kent Institute of Art and Design I work mainly with oil on canvas. I am interested in colour, surface and spatial elements. In my work, I seek to re-invent the beauty I find in our natural landscapes. The strata and fissures in a rock, decaying wood; the lushness of a valley. |

I work intuitively and spontaneously, constantly exploring what and why I paint and how to articulate it. When I begin a painting I don’t start with a fixed idea, it evolves organically, a visceral process. It is layered with obscured imagery, something hidden or emerging. My references are natural elements and are my response to the way I experience the world, and try to make sense of it. I find great inspiration in the works of Peter Lanyon, Ivon Hitchens, Howard Hodgkin and Helen Frankenthaler to name a few. When I experience their work it can take my breath away. I find their passion and sense of harmony deeply moving. This is what I seek in art and is what I would like to communicate with my work. |
